Welcome to Water’s Edge Psychotherapy.
The individuals and couples we work with come to us with many different issues—including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and existential questions—but share an overall wish to find more satisfaction and meaning in their lives and relationships. We work with clients toward their goals using a holistic approach to therapy that often incorporates psychodynamic, attachment-based approaches to help make sense of how you learned to do relationships—and what might need to shift in order for you to thrive— along with mind-body-spirit approaches to wellness that draw on yoga and other embodied wisdom traditions to approach wellbeing in a whole person way.
In our work with older adolescents and adult clients, we collaborate with you to promote healthy development and the capacity to free yourself from unsatisfying or painful patterns of living. Our approach emphasizes developing your capacity to be in relationships in a life-giving way. You will do this by telling your story to your therapist and working in close collaboration with your therapist to make meaning of your story and create possibilities for change. Special attention will be paid to the way that your past relationships are shaping present relationships, to body and mind, and to dreams and fantasies as well as conscious experience. Together with your therapist, you will work to alleviate personal suffering and to expand your capacity for work, love and creativity.
Groups: We offer a weekly psychotherapy group focused on helping group members learn how to have deeper and more satisfying relationships. Participating in a psychotherapy group can be a safe and transformative way to learn about how others experience you, to understand the protective habits that may be getting in the way of your innate capacity for closeness and intimacy, and to practice reaching out to people in a genuine, courageous way. To learn more, visit our Group page.
Workshops: Throughout the year, we offer 1-day workshops on topics including couples communication, yoga for grief, and stress-relief. Stay tuned for more information!
Yoga nidra is a deeply restorative and nourishing guided relaxation practice. If you are struggling with anxiety, insomnia or fatigue, you can meet with Katrin who will design and lead you through a personalized yoga nidra practice. Katrin will also make a recording of the practice so that you may use it at home.
There are few relationships as powerful and, at times, as challenging as our relationships with our partners. Couples therapy can help you to build and strengthen your foundation as a couple, and can help you cultivate a more satisfying partnership. Common themes you might address in couples therapy include improving communication, increased sexual satisfaction, navigating relationships with in-laws and children, and the role of money in your relationship. The idea of couples therapy can seem intimidating and as a result, couples often wait until they are in crisis to seek help. While therapy can be helpful at any time, there is often a more immediate potential for safety and growth when you begin this kind of therapy while things are relatively good and stable.
